Leslie Tucker Jenison is an award-winning textile artist in San Antonio TX. A native Kansan, she was introduced to her love of quilt- making in 1980 by a nurse colleague, while working at a Topeka KS hospital. Initially a traditional quilter, her interests evolved into making art quilts in the early 90s. Since moving to San Antonio TX in 1997, she was introduced to the concept of art cloth, and has been creating original work using her own hand-dyed cloth and surface design with personal imagery ever since. Her work has been shown in local, national, and international venues. “Fiber is my medium of choice

Artist Statement: Composted Flower Garden is the first in a series using primarily post-consumer materials to construct the quilt. With the exception of the thread, batting, and some of the couched decorative thread, the quilt is recycled from the trash cans of several fiber workshops and my home studio! I delight in the texture and bright color of the composted surface. It reminds me of the wildflower covered meadows of a South Texas spring. Materials and techniques: The surface is made entirely of rotary trimmings, dryer lint and fabric ravellings. The 3-dimensional flowers on the surface were created from used Fed-Ex and Priority Mail envelopes. The quilt back is an old thrift store sheet that was over-dyed. The fabric “compost” was couched onto stabilizer with old yarn and decorative thread. The piece was machine quilted with long-strand cotton thread.

Statement: As a gardener,
one of the most exciting things is to observe the new blossoms of spring,
and poppies are among my favorite. I'm constantly out in the garden
with my camera, trying to capture a springtime memory.

Artist Statement: Another in my recycled series, this small piece incorporates shredded currency as well as "stuff I found under the sofa cushions" in my studio. Materials and techniques: Fabric remnants and shredded money were couched to the surface of interfacing, then dollar bills were appliquéd onto the surface with monopoly thread.
