2009 Kansas Art Quilters Workshop Judi
Warren Blaydon Collage + Cloth = Quilt Saturday-Sunday,
May 30-31, 2009
Elements and fragments of those images will be combined in collage compositions that may be classic or abstract, powerful or subtle, lyrical or dramatic, symmetrical or not, suggestive of a landscape [or not] -- leading to unexpected and innovative designs. After a preliminary exercise assignment, students will make several exploratory collages that represent a collection of potential quilts. You'll select one that will be enlarged to become the "map" for a small fabric study. Judi will confer with students as they propose expressive fabric choices for translating the "paper quilts" to cloth, to be sewn after the workshop. The workshop will be Saturday, May 30, and Sunday morning, May 31, 2009, in the community room of the Watkins Community Museum of History in downtown Lawrence, Kansas. The cost for the 1 1/2 day workshop will be $75 for KAQ members. Don't miss this opportunity
to work with Judi Blaydon, who has taught extensively in this country
and in Japan. You may learn more about her at the website of Quilting
by the Lake, where she is a member of the faculty: And don't miss this opportunity to learn to use elements and images from your own photographs to design your own quilts. Workshop enrollment will be on a first come, first served basis for KAQ members. To reserve your place: Before April 1, send a check for $75 made payable to Kansas Art Quilters to Carol Gilham Jones |
